Ralph Maly

Vice President

Ralph began his career in October 1965 as a production specialist at the Western Electric manufacturing plant in Buffalo, NY. He became a Union member immediately after being hired and as a member of Local 1162 held several positions including Steward, Chief Steward, Job Evaluator and Organizing Coordinator.

While working in Buffalo, Ralph was assigned to the International Union for organizing purposes working on organizing campaigns in Texas, California, Washington, Georgia and Long Island, NY.

In 1976 the Buffalo plant closed and Ralph transferred to Atlanta, GA and began working at the Western Electric Atlanta Works. While at the works, Ralph held various positions with Local 3263, including Steward, Chief Steward, Organizing Coordinator, Executive Vice President and President, a position he held for over 5 years.

In 1989, Ralph was promoted to CWA Staff Representative, responsible for AT&T Manufacturing and Distribution. He was promoted to AVP of the Communications & Technologies (C&T) Office in July 1996. As Assistant he was responsible for all aspects of the C&T Office dealing with the AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya contracts. On January 10, 2001 he was sworn in as Vice President for the C&T Office and subsequently has been re-elected twice to that position and serves on the CWA International Executive Board.

Ralph served on National Bargaining in 1986, 1989, 1992, 1995 and 1998. During that time he also chaired several Bargaining Tables covering contracts in Manufacturing, Repair and Distribution and assisted in AT&T National Bargaining. As Vice President he has chaired 2002, 2003 and 2004, 2005, 2006 National Bargaining with AT&T, Lucent and Avaya.

Ralph graduated with a degree in Labor Studies from George Meany Center Antioch University in January 1996 and is presently working on his Masters Degree at the University of Massachusetts.
