Avaya: 2008 Avaya/CWA/IBEW Academic Awards

To: All Avaya Local Presidents

The application period for the year 2008 CWA/IBEW/Avaya Academic Awards Program is now open. Attached is the application that contains information regarding the program and the application process. It may be reproduced and distributed to the membership.

Completed applications must be postmarked no later than December 31, 2007. Only calendar year 2008 applications will be accepted, so if you have any left from last year, please destroy them.

This is an excellent bargained-for benefit that provides for 50% of the qualified applicants, up to a maximum of 15 and a minimum of 5 Avaya scholarships of up to $6,500.00 annually, renewable three times. In order to be eligible, high school seniors must have a minimum 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale and have participated in community or school volunteer activities. Please do all you can to make sure members who have high school seniors are aware of the program. Also, please emphasize to your members the importance of the volunteer service portion on the application. Since the majority of applicants have high GPA's, the next determining factor for successful candidates usually is volunteer service.
